Joan Mir suffers fracture after French GP collision with Francesco Bagnaia

Joan Mir has suffered a fracture to his right hand following a first-lap crash at the French Grand Prix to add to a tough 2025 MotoGP season so far.

After qualifying in 15th, he collided with Francesco Bagnaia at the first chicane on the opening lap after the factory Ducati rider came together with Enea Bastianini.

Race winner Johann Zarco narrowly dodged the accident, making contact with Mir as the 2020 world champion went down.

While Bagnaia was able to get back on his bike, the Honda rider was unable to continue and retired from the race meaning he has just one points finish in the opening five grands prix of 2025.

Along with the fracture to his right hand, Honda reported he was also suffering with neck pain and had been taken to hospital for further examination.

Bastianini has been penalised for the incident with a long-lap at the next race weekend in Silverstone.

Bagnaia said after the race: “A race and a weekend to truly forget. We weren’t able to take anything home.

“Even with the crash, if I had come back, I could have finished in the top five. But I had to stop because the shift paddle was partially blocked – sometimes the gears would engage and sometimes they wouldn’t.

“I then returned to the track with the other bike, but nothing worked today, and when things go wrong, it’s hard for them to right themselves.”

It is continued bad luck for Mir, who has so far retired from five out of the six feature races contested so far, with his only finish a ninth in Argentina.

Despite some promising qualifying results, including an eighth in Austin, his season has so far been littered with crashes.

Unfortunately for the 2020 champion, today’s crash caught him in the wrong place at the wrong time, as he was collateral damage in the Bagnaia-Bastianini collision.

Honda have said Mir’s condition will be updated in the coming days.
