Rinus VeeKay won't return to Dale Coyne Racing in 2026

At the beginning of the year, Rinus VeeKay was one of the last drivers to secure a full-time seat for the season ahead. After several years with Ed Carpenter Racing, the Dutchman joined forces with Dale Coyne Racing for 2025.

However, that partnership has come to an end after just one year, as confirmed by VeeKay himself on social media.

“I want to thank Dale Coyne Racing and in particular Dale and Gail for the opportunity they gave me to re-establish myself in 2025,” said VeeKay. “This year was genuinely the most enjoyable year in my career as an IndyCar driver. Especially big thanks to Renato, JC, Nico, Carlo, Brennan, John, Ryan, Matthew, Conner, Ed and Michael, Carrie and Michele for giving your best effort every single session as the 18 crew. This season and its lessons will stay with me forever.”

Driving the flagship No. 18 for DCR, VeeKay placed 14th in the final championship standings. He scored one podium, finishing an impressive second at Toronto. His year also included a tense Month of May, where he secured the 33rd and final spot on the grid for the Indy 500, beating teammate Jacob Abel.

Silly Season is already running a full speed for IndyCar, as Tuesday also brought with it the news that Will Power and Team Penske have parted ways. The duo spent 17 years together, winning 42 races and two championships.

As for VeeKay, he has not yet announced his 2026 plans, but he is expected to remain on the grid next season. He is a proven race winner (Indy GP 2021) and a veteran of six Indy 500s, where he has three top tens. In their final race together at Nashville, VeeKay started 26th, but made his way up to 13th by the time the checkered flag flew.
