Robert Shwartzman shuts down "offensive" rumors about his IndyCar career

Robert Shwartzman, 25, just completed his rookie season in IndyCar. Driving for Prema Racing, he just missed out on Rookie of the Year honors to Louis Foster, and ended the year 24th in the championship standings. He only earned two top ten finishes, placing as high as ninth at Iowa Speedway.
The one big highlight came in May, when Shwartzman earned a shock pole in the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500. He was the first rookie to win the pole for IndyCar’s crown jewel event in 42 years.
And this week, Shwartzman felt the need to publicly respond to rumors circulating, claiming that he isn’t happy in his career. The Israeli-Russian is a former F1 reserve driver, as well the 2019 F3 champion and 2021 F2 championship runner-up. He made the switch to IndyCar and the US racing scene after competing full-time in the World Endurance Championship, where he piloted a Ferrari 499P Hypercar.
“I want to take a moment to address something that’s been circulating recently,” Wednesday’s post read. “I keep seeing comments and have received messages suggesting that I’m unhappy in IndyCar, or that I don’t enjoy racing here. Let me be absolutely clear: I have never said that, and I’ve never even thought it. These rumors come from speculation, and not only is it inaccurate, it’s damaging and frankly offensive. The truth is the complete opposite! I am very happy to be racing in IndyCar. I love the series, the competition, the atmosphere, the variety of the circuits; the fans are passionate and the paddock is very welcoming.
“So, please don’t believe everything you read when it isn’t coming directly from me. If I have something to say about my career or how I feel, you’ll always hear it from me first. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me!”
